Background of the Study: Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a life-threatening condition that can arise from various causes, including peptic ulcers, varices, diverticulosis, and malignancies (Umar et al., 2024). The timely recognition and management of GIB are critical in reducing mortality and morbidity associated with this condition (Aliyu et al., 2023). Nurses, who are often the first healthcare professionals to assess and intervene, play an essential role in stabilizing patients, administering fluids, monitoring vital signs, and preparing patients for further treatment (Ibrahim et al., 2023). However, in resource-limited settings like Benue State, where there may be insufficient training, equipment, and protocols, nurses may be underprepared to handle such emergencies effectively (Abdullahi et al., 2024).
This study aims to investigate nurses' preparedness to handle GIB emergencies in Benue State healthcare facilities. It will examine factors such as knowledge of GIB causes and treatments, access to training, availability of necessary resources, and nurses' confidence in managing such crises.
Statement of the Problem: In Benue State, gastrointestinal bleeding is a critical emergency that requires prompt and accurate management. However, there are concerns about the preparedness of nurses in handling these emergencies, particularly in rural and under-resourced hospitals. The lack of adequate training, limited access to advanced equipment, and inadequate protocols may result in suboptimal care. This study will assess nurses' preparedness and highlight potential areas for improvement.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on nurses working in Benue State healthcare facilities, specifically examining their preparedness for managing gastrointestinal bleeding. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and clinical observations. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported data and the variability in resources and training across different hospitals.
